Training Day [1]

July 18, 2009
Jersey, GA

After having to skip last month's bird dog training due to high humidity and heat index over 100 F, we were compensated by a spectacular training day in July. The fields looked amazing, dense vegetation and high sorghum fields, everything very lush and on top of that we were blessed with wonderful weather and fall-like temperatures, a real treat for Georgia in July.

Tessa in a "whoa", turning around after some gunshots in the distance, but staying put. She has started wearing her e-collar but I have not used it yet and will refrain from doing so in the field for now, unless in an emergency sitution. We are progressing very slowly...I still want this to be fun for her, lots of fun.

Training Day [2]

July 18, 2009
Jersey, GA

After having to skip last month's bird dog training due to high humidity and heat index over 100 F, we were compensated by a spectacular training day in July. The fields looked amazing, dense vegetation and high sorghum fields, everything very lush and on top of that we were blessed with wonderful weather and fall-like temperatures, a real treat for Georgia in July.

We arrived at 7:15 a.m. and started with just a run through the fields, hunting up the occasional quail here and there. Then we spent about 1.5 hours at the pond.

At 11:30 a.m., after running and swimming for about 4 hours, my girl is starting to get tired. She still swims and runs, but is more compliant and is staying closer to me. Time to call it a day!

The Neighborhood Pond

July 14, 2009
Athens, GA

Stella and Tessa at the neighborhood pond, for some summer fun. We had to keep them on check cords because there's the potential of ducks swimming by, but that didn't spoil the fun. It was quite muddy, too. The dogs rinsed off pretty well, but we humans looked like pigs afterwards.

Dog Whispering

Athens, GA

We visited with Stella today, a 3-year old GSP and I found that the only thing nicer than watching a GSP run is watching two of them run! It was a lot of fun. I am glad we were able to get them both to sit still for a few seconds to snap some photos.

Independence Day

July 4, 2009
Sandy Creek Park, GA

We are now in the habit of spending two hours each Saturday and Sunday morning in the park. We befriended an Irish Setter and his owner, both old hunting pros, and share the park from 7-8 a.m., then book another hour from 8-9 a.m. to do some training.
